These vegan cheddar biscuits are the best thing you will ever try! Not only are they incredibly flavorful, they are super easy to make and everyone will love them.
Growing up, my cousin used to work at Red Lobster and would always bring us cheddar bay biscuits home so I have fond memories of them.
Now, I don’t go anymore [not much for vegetarians/vegans anyway] so I wanted to veganize the ever delicious recipe!
My vegan cheddar biscuits recipe does a pretty good job of being a Red Lobster copycat, using no dairy and none of the bad stuff.
In fact, this is a modified version of my Vegan Biscuits And Gravy biscuits and they are one of the most well-loved recipes on this site.
Vegan cheddar bay biscuits are a family favorite, and one of the best Vegan Recipes For Kids because what kid or kid at heart doesn’t LOVE a cheesy biscuit?!
For this recipe, I do not use store bought Bisquick, I show you have to make your own super easy version for light and flavorful biscuits.
The key to flavorful vegan copycat recipes is to spice and prepare the recipe with the same seasonings that the non-vegan favorite uses.
That means when you are trying to do a Red Lobster copycat for vegan cheddar biscuits, you are going to want to use all of the same seasonings and spices, down to the Old Bay [don’t skip it!]
I am confident that you are going to love veganizing cheddar bay biscuits as much as I do.
How To Make Vegan Cheddar Biscuits
As I said above, making Red Lobster biscuits without any dairy is super easy!
First you are going to want to combine your apple cider vinegar and non-dairy milk of your choice to create a buttermilk mixture.
Go ahead and set that aside to rest for 10 minutes while you prepare the rest of the ingredients.
In a large bowl, you want to combine your flour [can be gluten-free!], baking powder, baking soda, sugar, garlic powder, shredded vegan cheddar cheese, Old Bay, and salt.
Crumble the vegetable shortening and Vegan Butter and mix it into the dry ingredients.
For best results, you want your vegan cheddar biscuits to be clumpy! This is what makes for a flaky and delicious vegan biscuit!
Add in your vegan buttermilk mixture and stir until the dough comes together. It should be very sticky!
Using as little flour as possible, dust your work surface and fold the vegan cheddar biscuit dough on itself and place it on the surface. Shape or cut the biscuit into 1 inch by 3 inch balls.
Place the biscuits on a parchment lined baking sheet and bake until they are tall and lightly browned/baked which takes about 15-20 minutes.
While the biscuits are cooking, make the topping!
Whisk together vegan butter, parsley, and garlic powder in a small bowl. Of course, ensure that the vegan butter is melted!
While the vegan cheddar biscuits are still warm, brush the tops of them using a pastry brush and eat immediately!
I strongly recommend that you do NOT skip brushing them with the vegan butter mixture as this is what brings out the delicious flavor!
What To Serve With The Vegan Cheddar Bay Biscuits
If you are wondering what to serve with the vegan cheddar biscuits, I have got you!
Personally, I prefer eating them with a hearty and creamy soup so you can dunk them in the soup and really enjoy the flavorings that they soak up!
You can also eat them as a side for any holiday dinner or with something hearty like a baked mac and cheese!
In no way do you need to only eat these vegan cheddar biscuits for breakfast! They are my favorite tasty dinner side.
Here are some suggestions of what to eat with them:
- Dunk them in my Vegan Wild Rice Soup
- Use the biscuits are a base for my Vegan Biscuits And Gravy
- Use them instead of an English Muffin for Vegan Eggs Benedict
- Dunk them in Vegan Clam Chowder for a true New England taste.
- Eat them with Vegan Baked Mac And Cheese for a carb explosion!
You can truly go wild with all of the ways you can eat and use the vegan cheddar bay biscuits! The sky is truly the limit!
How To Reheat The Vegan Cheddar Biscuits
In order to get the same great taste as the day you made them, you are going to need to reheat the vegan cheddar biscuits in the oven.
Turn your oven to 300-350 degrees and place them on a baking sheet until they are warmed throughout, this usually takes about 5 minutes!
If you want to add additional topping, go ahead and mix together the parsley/vegan butter/garlic powder mixture!
When storing, I recommend NOT topping the biscuits with the garlic butter mixture to prevent them from getting soggy!
